About This Game
STELLAR SIMULATOR uses virtual reality to capture students’ interest in physics, astronomy, and, more specifically, the formation of stars and planetary systems – from their births in stellar nebulae to their deaths in violent cosmic events like supernovae. Produced by the World Science Festival, the simulator accommodates a full class of students who can join an online experience on a virtual galaxy using VR, mobile, or browser-based applications. Students can work in teams across mini-labs spread around the galaxy to compete in creating a variety of solar systems. Find nebulae, accelerate their development, create main sequence stars, launch planets, discover how speed and angle affect their orbits, experience supernovae, collapse red giants, produce black holes, neutron stars and white dwarfs, and do all of this in collaboration with other online players. The VR experience aligns with Phenomena-Based Learning, a method that drives curiosity and the development of important skills such as clear communication and teamwork. Originally known for its groundbreaking week-long live festivals placing science at the cultural core of New York City, the World Science Festival is an innovative multi-media organization that produces original content straddling science, technology, the arts, media, performance, journalism and education.
